Pilates Instructor
Moira Davids, Nèe Barkely, is a certified Pilates Instructor (Pilates Academy SA), ultra marathon runner and a former professional Flamenco dancer, choreographer and teacher. When she’s not in the studio or out running, she continues to build her 25+ year career in IT Operations as a Cloud Infrastructure and Engineering Lead at one of Africa’s leading retailers. Moira began her movement journey with dance training at the age of 14 with a doyenne of Flamenco, Carolyn Holden, at La Rosa Spanish Dance Theatre. She spent 24 years with the company, of which 15 years were as a soloist, choreographer and teacher. She’s been invited to perform across South Africa and internationally – most notably as a fusion artist in productions exploring the connections between Flamenco and Classical Indian Dance, and Afrikaans language. In 2011, she discovered her passion for long distance running and has been active in the sport ever since. During this time, she’s completed multiple Comrades Marathons, Two Oceans Ultra Marathons and all distances in-between. “I need to move to function. Movement is an expression of the life force within us. It is a precious source of healing, connection, and an act of love. Pilates gives me a space to pursue my passions for movement, mind-body connection and technical precision.” A running injury brought Moira to Booost’s door in 2017. She was advised by a medical practitioner to take up Pilates for strength, stability and alignment... and she never left. “Experiencing Booost and Tercia’s ethos towards Pilates was life-changing for me. After 7 years of practice and falling deeply in love with it, I was inspired to embark on the journey to become certified as a teacher. I teach with enormous amounts of love, a deep desire to facilitate the healing process, to unlock hidden potential and to help our clients to (re)connect with their bodies in ways they never knew possible.”
